Punjab constitutes committee to monitor price of essential commodities

Chandigarh, July 4, 2014: The Punjab Government has constituted a high level committee to keep a close watch at the prices of essential commodities in the state. This committee has been mandated to monitor the proper stock and supply of the essential commodities like vegetables, pulses, edible oils and milk.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that this high powered committee has been constituted following the instructions of the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He said that Secretary, Planning has been designated the Chairperson of this committee, whereas Director, Food and Civil Supplies, Director, Horticulture and General Manager (Marketing), Punjab Mandi Board have been inducted as Members in the Committee. The Economic Advisor, Punjab would be the Member Secretary of the Committee.
The spokesperson further said that this committee has given the power to oversee the prices of essential commodities on daily basis. This committee would also supervise the action taken by various authorities under ‘Essential Commodity Act’. Besides, monitoring the prices of the essential commodities like vegetables, pulses, edible oils, potato, onion and milk, this committee would also monitor the adequate supply of these commodities under ‘Public Distribution System’.
