Punjab Constitutes Committee To Determine Percentage Of Reservation For PCMS Doctors In PG Courses

Chandigarh, April 30, 2015: The Punjab government on the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court has constituted five members level high level committee to determine forthwith the percentage of reservation required for in service PCMS doctors keeping in view the prevailing situation based upon the available data.

This committee has been mandated to re examine and ascertain the quota for the Punjab PCMS Doctors for Post Graduate courses in the medical colleges of the state.

Divulging further detail an official Spokesperson said that after the hearing various writ petitions filed by the candidates the High Court had given its verdict to consider the institutional performance rather than the domicile of Punjab while giving admissions in PG courses. The Court had also given directions to the Punjab Government to consider 60% quota allotted to the PCMS Doctors of the state in PG courses. The Medical Education and Research department pursuing the directions of the Court has now constituted this highly qualified committee.

This committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Dr. Raj Bahadur, Vice Chancellor, Baba Farid university of Health Sciences, Faridkot. Director, medical education and research was member cum member secretary where as Director, health and family welfare, Principal Government medical college Patiala and Director cum Principal, Government medical college, Chandigarh have been indicted as members in the committee. Meanwhile the spokesman informed that to protect the interest of state students the Punjab Government would file SLP before double bench.
