Amritsar, March 5, 2015:  Prof.Naranjan S.Dhalla, Director of Cardiovascular Developments, Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, Saint Boniface Hospital Research Centre, University of Manitoba, Canada  delivered a Public Lecture on the topic entitled “Opportunities and Challenges for the Treatment of Heart Disease in Diabetes” on Thursday in Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

Gurcharan Kaur, Department of Biotechnology extended a formal welcome and introduced the speaker.

Dhalla apprised the audience about the recent advances made by the scientific community and his team in particular to identify new targets for discovering improved therapies for treatment of heart disease and diabetes.

Dhalla has published 800 research papers and reviews and has trained 160 fellows and students who are carrying out independent research around the globe. He has been actively engaged in promoting the scientific basis of cardiology over the past 47 years and served the International Society for Heart Research as Secretary General for 17 years and has served a 3 year term as President.  He is recipient of 177 honours and awards from many countries and has been granted Coat of Arms by the Canadian Heraldic Authority and chosen as 2ndGreatest Manitoban of all times.  His “bust” has been installed in the Citizens Hall of Fame in Winnipeg.
