PU to host Sensitization Workshop on Societal Fellowship Scheme of DST

Chandigarh, February 2, 2015: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh would host Sensitization Workshop on Societal Fellowship Scheme of Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India (GOI) for Women Empowerment on February 4, Wednesday.

Punjab State Council for Science & Technology in collaboration with Research Promotion Cell (RPC), Panjab University (PU) and National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) are organizing the Sensitization Workshop.  The workshop is an initiative of DST, GOI to create awareness on their Societal Research Fellowship Scheme under programme KIRAN – Knowledge Involvement Research Advancement Nurturing.

The workshop would include technical sessions, where experts from domains of life science, medical & engineering sectors would be delivering the talks.  About 150 women scientists, technologists, engineers, medical professionals from Punjab & Chandigarh are expected to participate in the workshop. The event is open for scientists from all the science streams. The registration is being done on first come first serve basis.

The workshop is aimed to address women scientists & technologists, who wish to contribute to nation building through laboratories to land transfer, technology adaptation and scaling of location specific interventions.  Under the scheme, DST-GOI provides research grants to female researchers especially those having break in their career, who wishes to return to main stream research and become benchmark researchers.

NASI Chairperson and former Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, GOI Dr. Manju Sharma would inaugurate the workshop.  K A P Sinha, IAS, Secretary to Govt. of Punjab, Department of Science, Technology & Environment would be the Guest of Honour and PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover would preside over the function.

Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Principal Scientific Officer, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India will provide overview of the funding opportunities available under KIRAN and other programmes of DST, Govt. of India. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
