CHANDIGARH, MAY 30, 2017: “Students should have vision and mission to excel in life and to think beyond impossible”, said Dr.Satish Kumar, Padma Shri and Director NIT, Kurukshetra, during his key note address at the Annual General Body Meeting and Scholarship Award Function of the Panjab University Alumni Association(PUAA) held here today in the ICSSR Hall, PU.
Dr.Satish advised students not to compromise on their values and also not to loose their originality in order to succeed in life. He also shared his phenomenal experiences of working at DRDO under the leadership of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India.
Prof.Arun K.Grover, Vice Chancellor and President PUAA, PU, while addressing the gathering said that this is an annual event where a distinguished Alumnus is invited to give the awards to deserving students. He said that PU promotes and pushes the students as frontiers of knowledge to compete at national and international level. PU has the best of faculty to shape the futures of young students, he added.
Prof. Anil Monga, Dean Alumni Relations and Secretary, PU Alumni Association in his welcome address highlighted various activities and achievements of the Department especially that there has been a steady increase in the PUAA members with
an addition of over 270 Life member 3 Patron members and 1 overseas member during the year 2016-17 taking the total membership of the Association beyond 6400 members.
A total of 63 meritorious students (28 each from the affiliated Colleges and 35 from University Departments) who had topped the respective courses of the PU during the Academic Session 2015-16 were awarded scholarships, merit certificates and trophies. Stipends to 14 deserving pupils were also awarded on need-cum-merit basis in academics or sports as per the directions of the sponsors.
