PU Commemorates Le Corbusier Birth Anniversary

Chandigarh, October 6, 2016: University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Department (UIHTM), Panjab University (PU) today celebrated the 129th birth anniversary of legend Architect Le Corbusier by conducting a special event on Chandigarh architecture. The event was planned to give tribute to the great legend by discussing his contribution in the field of
architecture.
Key speaker of the event Dean Academics, Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) Mr.Jatinder Pal Singh discussed the versatile nature of Le Corbusier and talked about his various qualities like architect, painter, urban planner and designer par excellence.
Moreover, he talked about his farsightedness in the field of modern architecture as he used both reinforced concrete and steel for his constructions. He highlighted the importance of plain urban architecture, as Corbusier architected ornamental less
architectural marvels.
During the event, Director UIHTM, Dr. Prashant Gautam presented a description of life of Le Corbusier and talked about the one of his best creations of Corbusier i.e.Chandigarh-the city beautiful from tourists perspective.
UIHTM faculty members also delivered lectures on various topics like Capitol complex as tourist attraction, use of elemental geometric forms in building construction, urban drawings and plans, Government buildings and its significance etc.
