PRTC all set to induct 250 new buses by next year

Chandigarh, March 10, 2015: PRTC has started the process of disbursing the retirement benefits to its pensioners which approximately amount to Rs 26 crore.
While expressing this Punjab Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar said that the cheques related to the GPF, Gratuity and CP Fund etc. of the retired employees have been delivered at the head office of PRTC. He said that all the payments shall be made by 31 March 2015.
The Minister said that the income of the department has witnessed increase of Rs. 10 lakh approximately during recent past. He said that PRTC will induct 250 new buses, 1200 electronic ticketing machines by March, 2016 and out of these 250 buses, 20 would be purchased by next month and then 30 new ones will be purchased every month. At present, PRTC has 586 buses. He further informed that 875 buses are operating kilometer and other schemes while out of 180 grounded buses, 100 have again started operating on their routes.
The Minister said that the grounded fleet of 60 buses have also started plying on their routes with rates reduced to the tune of 69 paise per kilometer. He further divulged the details that the Government is giving Rs. 4.50 crore per month in order to keep PRTC running and Rs. 47.47 crore have been additionally received as travelling facilities which would be used in clearing gratuity and G.P.F. dues of employees.
Divulging more details, he said that Amloh, RamaMandi and Faridkot bus stands shall be made operational by May, 2015 and also, PUDA is constructing bus stand at Sangrur on B.O.T. basis. He conveyed that Faridkot depot would be developed as a model depot.
