Chandigarh, May 27, 2015: IIT Bombay Professor and Prof In-charge of Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), Mumbai, Prof Milind Atrey has advocated Incubation Centres on self sustainable model in all the higher education institutions of Chandigarh.

Prof Atrey was addressing the one day workshop on “Establishment of Incubator” at PEC University of Technology here today. The objective of this workshop, organised by PEC, was to set up an Incubator in PEC University of Technology and other institutions in Tri-city for promoting Entrepreneurial Development.

Panjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arun Kumar Grover and Director, PEC University of Technology, Prof. Manoj Arora presided over the function. Coordinator of Workshop, Prof. TK Jindal gave the welcome address and introduced the key-note speaker.

Faculty members from various leading higher education institutions of Chandigarh region like PU, PEC University of Technology, INST, NITTTR, UIET, CCET, TBRL etc. participated in the workshop. The students from PEC University of Technology also interacted with Prof Atrey.

Prof Atrey suggested for using the alumni network to fund the new projects. He urged to promote the successful entrepreneur alumni as role models to motivate the students.

Every dept, institution should identify a passionate person for being the Professor In-charge for Enterpreneurship Cells, he added.

Prof Atrey informed that the students going for entrepreneurship incubation program at IIT Bombay were allowed to participate in deferred placements after 18-36 months.

Earlier, in the first session, the Prof Atrey talked about the role of Incubator Centre for promotion of entrepreneurship and gave insight about how young graduates and post graduates can be transformed into entrepreneurs. He emphasized that there is need to shape up the ideas of students to convert into prospective business opportunities.

In the interactive session, queries of participants were addressed and discussion was made on various issues related to set up and operation of incubator centres. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Anju Singla, Co-coordinator of the workshop.

The Inaugural address was given by Director, PEC, Prof Manoj Arora in which he emphasized on the need of incubators to nurture entrepreneurs to make them confident and smart engineers for entrepreneurial development. Technical institutions should focus to make engineers and not produce engineers, he stressed.

The one day workshop will provide a platform and direction for setting up of an Incubator for budding entrepreneurs. The success of any institute promoted entrepreneurship/incubator depends on level of motivation, team approach, interdisciplinary works, standard of research and innovation, and prevailing ecosystem comprising of institution/industry/research labs/ banking systems/ markets/available expertise. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
