Naresh Kumar, Gurgaon based sculptor creates statue in 35 days
New Delhi: It was some ‘Dreams come true’ moment for Gurgaon-based techno-sculptor Naresh Kumar Kumawat on Sunday, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the statue of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay – made by Naresh – at a function in Vigyan Bhawan, as part of the Centenary Celebrations being organized across the nation. The PM released the 15-volume work 'The Complete Works of Deendayal Upadhyaya', which includes his 22-inch-long statuette.

“It was really a tough task to make somebody’s 3-D statue on the basis of only a few photographs. For this fibre statue – covered with different metals, I had worked at least 4-5 hours a day for 35 days,” Naresh, in his late 30s, says, “Being an admirer of Panditji’s ideology of ‘integral humanism’, I didn’t charge anything for this statue. It is a token of respect for that greatest son of the soil.” He further adds that craving the bust or the statues of national heroes always enhances the creativity of an artist.

Originally hailing from Pilani (Rajsthan), the perfection of fine arts came into Naresh as patrimony. While his grandfather was the royal sculptor of erstwhile Sikar dynasty, his father Maturam is a living legend of full-size sculpture.

Naresh, who had won accolades across the globe for his techno-sculpture (a blend of technology and craving), chose this form of fine arts, just after finishing his higher secondary. “At that moment, I took a lead from my grandfather’s common adage ‘Do what you can do best’ and I started learning it from my father Matu Ram Verma. He is a great artist, painter and founder of Matu Ram Art Centers. He laid the foundation of the company in year 1989 with the First and the Iconic Project, The Statue of Lord Shiva at Rang Puri, NH-8, New Delhi. It is also one of the most reputed and oldest sculptures and towering statue Construction Company in India that designed and developed several iconic sculptures worldwide,”Naresh said, adding, “The center employs all sorts of modern techniques to develop huge sculptures. Besides completing 65 Ft tall Statue of Hanuman in Toronto (Canada), 108 Ft tall Statue of Neelkanth Mahadev in Mauritius and 101 Ft tall Statue of Mahadev on Sanga Mount in Nepal, I have also made mega-size statues in India also.”

Naresh also wants to gift some of his rare creations to PM Narendra Modi on November 1 during the ‘Haryana Day’ at Gurgaon. Awarded by the state government for his techno-sculpture acumen, Naresh, however, does not want to reveal the details of his gift to PM. “I want to gift my best creation to the most dynamic leader of the world,” he says.?
