Pig farming gaining all-time high popularity in Punjab

Ludhiana, April 27, 2018: A monthly meeting of Progressive Pig Farmer Association (PPFA) held at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. A total of 55 farmers from every corners of Punjab State participated in this meeting.
Dr Satinderpal Singh from Punjab Veterinary Vaccine Institute, Ludhiana detailed about the vaccines produced by the institute for the livestock. Dr Singh further explained about the swine fever disease, its prevention through vaccine, vaccine availability, its transport and demonstrated the method to inject the vaccine.
Dr Kulvinder Singh Sandhu from veterinary extension department of the university shared his research finding on piglets weaning. Both expert lectures were highly appreciated by the farmers.
Dr JPS Gill Director Research, GADVASU revealed that Pig farming is gaining all-time high popularity in the state overcoming the social taboo attached with this farming. He further told that university strive its best to bring livestock revolution viz Dairy, Poultry, Piggery, Goat etc. for all section of farmers viz landless, small to large farmers through various modus operandi.
Dr S K Kansal, Head, Department of Veterinary Extension, revealed that different farmers associations like Pig, Goat, fish are working under the aegis of university.
Dr Jaswinder Singh and Dr Bilawal Singh, Coordinators, Progressive Pig Farmer Association told that university is regularly providing the technical backup to the Pig farmers by conducting the monthly meeting of association on every last Thursday of the month.
Mr Sukhwinder Singh Grewal, president PPFA, briefed the achievements of the association to the gathering and also highlighted certain issues like establishing the pork processing unit, enhanced availability of vaccine which needs immediate attention of the controlling authority and policy makers. He further requested all the pig framers of the Punjab to unite under this one platform i.e. Pig Farmers Association to bring the pink revolution in the State.
