Ludhiana, August 6, 2018: The Punjab government is committed for making the youth, especially from rural areas, self dependent, by training them in different skill development courses. Moving ahead in this direction, a free hostel facility has been started at the Multi Skill Development Centre located on Gill Road, here, for the students, especially from rural areas of the state.
While providing further information, Mr Veerdeep Singh, Incharge and Mr Jatinderpal Singh, Course Incharge, Multi Skill Development Centre, informed that the hostel has a capacity of 309 students and 204 boys and 105 girls can stay here free of cost. They stated that this hostel facility has been started from this session only and in the first batch, 48 girls and 50 boys are availing of this facility. They stated that the hostellers get free food, stay, study material etc, besides facilities such as an LED room, indoor games etc have also been provided for the recreation of students.
They informed that this hostel has been constructed under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana and houses 12 rooms for girl students and 24 for boys and 8 students can stay in each room. They stated that ample number of fans, almirahs, beds and furniture have been provided in the hostel rooms, along with common toilets, water cooler and a clean mess. They informed that wardens (both men and women) have been appointed for both boys and girls hostel and at night time, security guards remain on duty.
They informed that classes for various courses were started in this institution in March 2017 and till date, more than 50 percent pass outs have been placed in leading industrial houses, while the remaining have either started their own businesses or are in the process of starting them. They stated that out of the short term courses being run at the institute, six are totally free of cost, while nominal fee is being charged for the three other courses. For all these courses, the educational qualification is class tenth and 12th. They informed that the students of short term courses get the training, uniform and practical facilities totally free of cost.
