Ludhiana, November 7, 2017: Punjab Energy Development Agency in association with Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College organized Workshop-cum-Exhibition on Energy Efficient Building Materials / Appliances at Ludhiana. While inaugurating the Workshop-cum-Exhibition on Energy Efficient Building Materials, Sh.Pradeep Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana emphasized upon the use of Energy Efficient materials in the upcoming buildings under the provision of Punjab ECBC. The code has been notified by the Govt. of Punjab for mandatory use in buildings / building complexes having connected load of 100 kW and above. The Punjab ECBC Compliant buildings save 30-40% electricity consumption as compared to the conventional buildings. The Department of Local Govt. has issued notification for "The Punjab Municipal Green Building Intensive Policy 2016" and provided incentive of 15% rebate in property tax for Punjab ECBC Compliant buildings. In addition, they have provided 5% extra FAR free of cost for construction of GRIHA, IGBC and LEED Green Buildings.
Dr. Harpal Singh, Principal, GNDE College, Ludhiana welcomed all the participants for attending this important workshop-cum-exhibition. He said that this workshop will enhance the capacity of the stakeholders for use of Energy Efficient materials in the upcoming buildings. Er. Balkar Singh, Asstt. General Manager informed that PEDA is facilitating all the stakeholders through organizing capacity building programs and interactive sessions through ECBC Cell created in PEDA Office for implementation of Punjab ECBC. More than 800 Private / Govt. Architects, Engineers and Builders have been sensitized about the energy efficient materials and its use for construction of Punjab ECBC complaint buildings. More than 20 manufacturers / suppliers showcased their energy efficient products in this exhibition namely Insulation, AAC Blocks, Hollow Blocks, Glass, LED Lighting, SPV & Solar Water Heater, Sensors, Electrical Systems & Automation. Around 110 Architects, Design Professionals, Engineers and Builder's participated in this workshop.
There were two technical sessions. In the first session, presentation on Sustainable Architecture by Ar.Sanjay Goyal, Chairman, Chandigarh-Punjab Chapter, Indian Institute of Architects & Director, Ludhiana Smart City Poroject showcased the properties required in sustainable buildings. Presentations by representatives from M/s. MRM infrastructure, Crompton Lighting, GBCI, Llloyds Insulation, L&T switchgear were held. In his presentation on ECBC, Dr. Arvind Dhingra said that the ECBC which was an offshoot of Energy Conservation Act,2001 was initiated by Bureau of Energy Efficiency in 2007. But still it is at a nascent stage. Awareness needs to percolate for making this effective as implementation of ECBC could lead to saving of 30-40% of energy. The participants showed keen interest in these presentations and the exhibition alos evoked overwhelming response. In the concluding session, Sh. Satwant Singh, PCS, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana was the chief guest. He appreciated the efforts made by PEDA & Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana for organizing this important workshop on building materials to improve energy efficiency in the building sector. Sh. Anupam Nanda, Senior Manager, PEDA delivered thevote of thanks. Pf. Jaswinder Singh, HOD (Electrical) and Dr.Kulbir Singh Gill, HOD(Civil) thanked the exhibitors and presenters for their contribution in spreading awareness about the ECBC code.
