PAU TO TRAIN FARMERS AND FARM WOMEN IN MUSHROOM GROWING

Ludhiana, September 1, 2016: The Directorate of Extension Education of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology will conduct a training course on “Mushroom Cultivation” for the farmers and farm women from September 5-9 and 17-21. The microbiology experts will educate the trainees about importance, nutritional benefits, processing, economics and marketing of mushrooms; their seed preparation; insect-pest and disease management; nematode management; and nutritious recipes prepared using them. The experts will also inform the trainees about the cultivation of dhingri, paddy straw, milky and shitake mushrooms, along with the focus on composting, spawning and casing. The course will be coordinated by Dr T.S. Riar and Dr Rupinder Kaur, Professors of Extension Education whereas technically, it will be coordinated by Dr Shammi Kapoor, Senior Microbiologist, PAU.
