Ludhiana, June 5, 2015: Three students of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have made their alma-mater proud by excelling in different curricular and co-curricular activities. Sukhpreet Kaur Sidhu, a Ph.D scholar of the Department of Botany, PAU has been awarded a research grant by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India under Women Scientist Scheme (A) for pursuing doctoral research on “Assessment of Germplasm for Variation in Acquisition and Utilization of Phosphorus (P) in Pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.].” The fellowship carries an amount of Rs 30,000/ per month accompanied by a project grant for three years amounting to Rs 17, 05000/-. Giving details of the proposed research, Major Advisor of the student, Dr Jagmeet Kaur, Senior Botanist and Incharge of Pulses Section said that apart from minimizing environmental pollution and contributing to the maintenance of P resources, the study will help in identification of P efficient genotypes in both high and low-input farming systems which would help in reducing the production cost associated with P fertilizer applications.
In addition, Anmol Grewal, a student of M.Sc. Zoology and Amritpal Singh Randhawa, a student of M.Sc Vegetable Crops won second position in the Elocution Competition on 'Indian Agriculture 2040' organized as a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi on June 2, 2015.
Dr B. S. Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor; Dr Neelam Grewal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies; Dr S.K. Thind, Professor and Head, Department of Botany and Dr S. S. Hundal, Professor of Zoology congratulated the students for their praiseworthy performance.
