Ludhiana, June 28, 2016: Light to moderate rain/thundershowers at a few places during next 72 hours and at many places thereafter. During this period, maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 30-36oC and 22-27oC, respectively. The maximum relative humidity is expected to remain between 40-89% and minimum between 25-36% during these days, according to Agroadvisory Bulletin issued on Tuesday by PAU, Ludhiana.
Complete nursery sowing of Basmati 370 and Basmati 386. To check foot rot of Basmati rice, treat the seed with Bavistin @ (20g) + Streptocycline @ (1g) in 10 litres of water for 12 hours. It is also the right time for direct seeding of basmati variety Pusa Basmati 1121. As rainfall is expected in coming days, farmers are advised to transplant paddy during these days.
As chances of rainfall are less in south-west Punjab in coming 2-3 days, farmers can spray insecticides when whitefly population reaches 6 adults per leaf in the upper canopy of cotton plants before 10 AM. Spray insecticides preferably before 12 noon or in the evening. Use recommended insecticides like Craze/ Polo 200 g or or Sutathion/ Marktriazo 600 ml or Fosmite/ E-mite/ Volthion 800 ml or Oberon 200 ml per acre. For the control of Jassid in cotton, use Ulala 50 WG @ 80 g/acre or Confidor or Confidence or Imidacel or Markdor @ 40 ml/acre or Actara/Extra super/Dotara/ Thomson (thiamethoxam) 25 WG@ 40 g/acre in 125-150 litres of water.
As rainfall is expected in coming days, no need to apply irrigation to the standing vegetable crops although farmers are advised to drain out excess water from the vegetable fields, where heavy rainfall occurred.
As rainfall is expected in coming days, farmers can increase the interval of irrigations to their orchards. In view of expected thundershowers; farmers can post pone white-wash on the trunks of the trees. Drain out excess water from orchards or nurseries in case of heavy rainfall or standing water. Postpone the spray of fungicides or insecticides keeping in view the forecast of rain during this period.
During summer season, concentrate should contain 2-3 per cent more crude protein content and therefore increase 5 to 7 per cent more oilseed cakes in the concentrate mixture. Save the animals from ticks, lice and flies as these parasites cause irritation and spread diseases. Animal shed should be dry, airy and well ventilated.
