PAU INKS PACT WITH KHALSA COLLEGE, AMRITSAR FOR BERSEEM SEED PRODUCTION

Ludhiana, February 7, 2018: To supply good quality fodder seed to boost the dairy farming, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Khalsa College, Amritsar, for berseem seed production. The tie-up is an initiative of Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, and Dr Mehal Singh, Principal, Khalsa College, Amritsar. Dr N.S. Bains, Director of Research, PAU; Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Associate Director (Seeds), PAU; Dr Gurbax Singh, Associate Professor (Agronomy); and Dr Kawaljit Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy); Khalsa College Amritsar, signed MoU for the production of berseem seed on the agricultural farm of Khalsa College, Amritsar. They also ensured to extend all possible help to each other.

In Punjab, berseem is being cultivated on an area of about 2.27 lakh hectares and timely supply of good quality, disease free seed is a challenge. As per memorandum, good quality seed of berseem variety BL 42 of PAU will be produced on the agricultural farm of Khalsa College, Amritsar and marketed by PAU, Ludhiana to fulfill the demand of quality seed of dairy farmers.

On the occasion, Dr K.S. Thind, Additional Director of Research (Crop Improvement); Dr Ashok Kumar, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bio-energy); and Dr S.S. Chahal, Adjunct Professor, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, were also present.
