PAU Holds Training Course On Scope Of Aromatic And Medicinal Plants

Luhdiana, July 22, 2016: A two-day training course on the “Scope of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, their Processing and Marketing” concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The PAU’s Directorate of Extension Education had organised the course for agriculture officers, agriculture development officers, horticulture development officers, district extension specialists and scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras.

Dr T.S. Riar, Course Coordinator, said the trainees were equipped with the knowledge about cultivation of mentha and turmeric, cultivation of seed spices, cultivation of Cymbopogon species, export procedure for agri-commodities and importance of medicinal, aromatic and spice crops in the present scenario of agriculture. He further told that the trainees were also informed about the insect-pests of medicinal, aromatic and spice crops and their management; processing and major constituents of medicinal, aromatic and spice crops; and business model for aromatic and medicinal plants.

The trainees visited Herbal Garden, Biotechnology laboratory and Department of Processing and Food Engineering at PAU for practical exposure. The course was also coordinated by Dr Kulvir Kaur whereas technically, it was coordinated by Dr Amandeep Singh Brar.
