Ludhiana, December 5, 2016: A group of 17 fellows of the Colorado Agricultural Leadership Programme, USA, visited PAU to learn about the agricultural interests of the state. While Adjunct Professor, and Editor, Journal of Agricultural Research, DrT.S. Thind along with other heads of departments, facilitated the queries of the delegates, Dr Saravjeet Singh, Additional Director of Research (Crop Improvement) highlighted the important research activities of the university. The Additional Director, Extension, Dr P.S. Auluck was also present during the meeting, held in the committee room of the Director Research.
The participants showed in interest varied agricultural topics like farm mechanization in Punjab, the declining water table in the state, job opportunities available to agricultural graduates in India, horticultural and vegetable practices, rice –wheat marketing system and food safety.
The delegates comprised agricultural businessmen involved in seed and fertilizers, producers, ranchers, professors and officers in government support programmes. Cathy Calderwood, Executive Director, Colorado Agricultural Leadership Programme, informed that the programme strives to bring young leaders on board and teaches them about agriculture in USA and the world. The visit was a part of greater exposure and leadership development strategies for the young members.
Jerry Sonnenberg, State Senator and Financing officer of the Colorado programme said that the group gained immense exposure and knowledge from the visit and that they looked forward to collaborate with Indian universities for the sake of feeding the world together in a better way.
Later, a visit to the apiary followed by the mushroom farm and net house cultivation area was organized for the delegation.
