PAU To Hold Training Courses On Home Science And Processing Of Horti-Produce

Ludhiana, May 18, 2016: A five-day integrated training course on “Home Science” will be organized by the Directorate of Extension Education of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) from May 23-27. The course would aim at entrepreneurial skill development of farm women and rural youths of the state. It would be held in association with the College of Home Science, PAU.

Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, said the home scientists would give guidelines for the preparation of soft toys and eco-friendly cleaning agents. In addition, experts would acquaint the trainees with newspapers craft, paper quelling, dyeing techniques of fabrics and fabric painting techniques, he told. The home scientists would also give demonstrations on the preparation of fruit based summer drinks, sprouted and fermented snacks, cakes and biscuits, he added. The course would be coordinated by Dr Rupinder Kaur and technically coordinated by PAU home scientists namely Dr Kiran Grover, Dr Sukhminder Kaur, Dr Narinderjit Kaur and Dr H.K. Saggu.

Meanwhile, another three-day training course on “Storage and Processing of Horticulture Produce” would be organized for agriculture and horticulture development officers from May 25-27, he informed. The course would be jointly conducted by the Directorate of Extension Education and the Training Unit, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, PAU.

Dr Sidhu said the course would familiarize the trainees with agro-processing technologies, agro-processing complexes, cleaning and grading of fruits and vegetables, post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables, honey and amla processing, processing of potatoes for chips making, onion processing and its related machinery, and mushroom and mentha processing. Besides, experts would educate about wheat milling machinery, paddy processing machinery, processing machinery for turmeric and chillies, and processing and storage of fruits and vegetables, he added. The course would be coordinated by Dr T.S. Riar and Dr Kulvir Kaur whereas technically it would be coordinated by Dr Amarjit Singh and Dr Tarsem Chand.
