PAU Creates Awareness On Jal Sutra

Ludhiana, November 23, 2016: An awareness campaign on "Jal Sutra" was organized by the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), in the village Talwandi Khurd today. The campaign was held under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, sponsored project on “Social marketing of water saving technologies to mitigate the effects of climate change.” High school students of the village Talwandi Khurd and students of the College of Home Science, PAU, started the campaign with a rally and street plays, emphasizing the problem of groundwater depletion in the state and creating awareness among the villagers regarding water saving technologies, developed by PAU.

This campaign will be followed by a two-day training course on “Water Saving Technologies at Agricultural and Household Level” on November 24 and 25. Lectures will be delivered by PAU scientists. Few technologies like use of flexi pipes for irrigation and use of dual button flush tanks have been distributed among the villagers for demonstration purpose. Two places have been identified for recharging of abandoned well and installment of rain water harvesting structure in the village. These activities will be sponsored by the project. Same awareness campaign will also be conducted in two other selected villages of Faridkot and Ropar district under the project.
