PAU Awarded Project On Promotion Of Micro Irrigation

Ludhiana, July 28, 2016: The Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been awarded a project entitled “Promotion of Micro Irrigation System for Command Area Development and Water Management Programme for Kotla Branch (Part II).” This project has been awarded by Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation Limited, a constituent of Government of Punjab. The total budget outlay of this project is Rs 214.96 lakh. The project team comprises Dr Rakesh Sharda (Principal Investigator), Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Dr Mukesh Siag, Dr Nilesh Biwalkar and Dr Angrej Singh (Co-Principal Investigators).

Dr B.S. Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU said that this project has been awarded in recognition of the excellent work done by PAU in the field of micro irrigation. He congratulated the team for bagging this project.

Dr R.K. Gumber, Director of Research, PAU congratulated the scientists and said that micro irrigation is need of the hour. He further informed that this project will cover four districts viz. Barnala, Sangrur, Bathinda and Mansa. Mass awareness camps and training programmes on micro irrigation will be organized for the farmers as well as officers of the funding agency, he told.

Lauding the scientists, Dr J.S. Mahal, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, said this project will help in improving ground water condition of the state.
