National workshop on Electrochemistry (NWEC-2016) at Panjab University

Chandigarh, October 25, 2016: Two days national workshop on Electrochemistry (NWEC-2016) under the aegis of this UGC: INDO-US 21st Century Knowledge Initiative concluded at the Department of Chemistry, Panjab University (PU) on Tuesday.
As many as 85 students, researchers and scientists of various academic institutes and industries participated in the workshop. The national workshop is being jointly organized by the PU Department of Chemistry and Sinsil International Pvt Ltd,Faridabad under the aegis of this UGC: INDO-US 21st Century Knowledge Initiative.
Many participants presented scientific posters of their research work in this workshop.
Ms Kanika, Ms Shivani Kapoor, Ms Palak and Ms Bhumika were awarded with best poster awards.
Earlier, the second day of the workshop started with expert lecture on Nanobiosensors by Senior Scientist, IMTECH-CSIR, Chnadigarh Dr Vijayender Bhalla. The session was chaired by Dr Sandeep Kumar from GJUS&T, Hisar. Dr Bhalla pressed upon the need of Electrochemical based Point of Care Sensors for detection of important analytes like explosives (TNT, RDX), pesticides and other pollutants. The participants were made aware about different modules available in experimental set up of electrochemical workstation that can be used for extracting useful information about early diagnosis of diseases.
Later, Dr K Ramesh from Sinsil International demonstrated Coulometry –Spectroelectrochemistry and Spectroelectrochemistry in Reflection and Transmission
Mode.
Chairman, Dept of Chemistry Prof P Venugopalan thanked industry Sinsil International Pvt Ltd during the Valedictory function and highlighted the need of such industry-academia joint ventures which are of immense benefit to the participants.
Convener Dr. GR Chaudhary expressed gratefulness to UGC for providing financial support under prestigious INDO-US 21st Century Knowledge Initiative project.
