Patiala, Barnala District Livestock Fairs Conclude

Chandigarh, December 3, 2015: To encourage animal husbandry in state the Punjab government is holding district level livestock and milking championships of which the competitions at Barnala and Patiala concluded today. In Patiala district the competitions were held at Ghanaur, while at Barnala these were held at Barnala wherein a large number of animal lovers flocked. The winner animals from both the districts collectively took home Rs 11 lacs cash prizes.
 
               A lot of enthusiasm was seen in the Patiala's animal livestick and milking competitions held at Ghanaur wherein more than 1500 animals were brought decked up to the event. During the event the villagers, especially youngsters, were seen clicking selfies with the animals they liked and archive the fair's memories.
 
               On the concluding day today the Ghanaur MLA Mrs Harpreet Kaur Mukhmailpur and former minister Mr Ajaib Singh Mukhmailpur were present as the chief guests who felicitated the winners of various categories. 23 competitions of buffaloes, cows, pigs, horses, dogs etc were held wherein the winners were given cash prizes and mementoes.
 
               On the other hand in Barnala's Dhanaula area the chief guest of prize distribution ceremony today was the Deputy Commissioner Mr Gurlogveleen Singh. During the mela around 1039 animal owners registered themselves and the winners of varous categories took home Rs 5.50 lacs of cheques and certificates. Today's fair saw competitions of turkeys, cocks, dogs, ducks, pigs etc. The equestrians' dance compeitions remained center of attraction.
 
               Addressing the animal lovers congregated at event, the DC Mr Gurloveleen Singh Sidhu said that Punjab government was encouraging animal rearing in a big way. There are several subsidies meant to help people start animal rearing and also programs are available to learn techniques and expertise meant to run the animal business. He added that animal rearers get encouragedby participating in such district, state and national level competitions.
 
               At the event, Sukhwinder Singh Bhattal's murrah buffalo gave 19.600 liters of milk and got first place. Besides this Manohar SIngh's cow from village Dhanaula won the first place. Marwari mare of Paramjit Singh Chheeni Kalan, marwari horse of Malkit Singh village Lohgarh and nukra horse of Hardev Singh from village Theekriwal walked away with first prizes. Similarly, HF cow of Bhagat Singh from village Mahal Khurd won first place.
