Panjab University Senate approves Syndicate proposal of increasing examination fees for PU & affiliated college students

Chandigarh, July 24, 2016: Panjab University (PU) Senate today approved the Syndicate proposal of increasing the examination fees for the PU and affiliated college students.
In a significant relief, the students having family income below Rs 5 Lakh per annum shall not bear the enhanced burden of increased Examination Fees. They will submit their claims for which the due procedural mechanism would be shortly notified by the office of PU Dean College Development Council.
After lengthy discussions, the Senate approved the proposal for increasing the examination fees to narrow down the budget deficit of the University. Though, some of the Senate members expressed their dissent on the issue and it was approved
by the house.
The examination fees structure of BA, BA (Hons), BSc, B.Com, B.Com (Hons.), BBA, BCA, B.P.Ed. and B.Ed has been increased from existing slab of Rs. 1300-2500 to Rs. 2500 in annual system and semester system. The Environment Education exam fee has been increased from Rs. 300-500 slabs to Rs. 500 per semester.
The examination fee of B.Sc (Hospitality and Hotel Administration) and B.Sc.(Fashion Designing) has been increased from Rs. 2970 to 3000 per semester. The examination fees of MA/M.Sc. (Hons School)/All Diploma Course, Five Year Integrated Course in Economics, Master in Police Administration, PG Diploma (All streams), M.Com, M.Com (Hons.)/M.Sc. (TYC), MCA (except 6th semester), M.Sc. (Statistics) M.Sc. System Biology and Bio-informatics and MFC (USOL) has been increased from existing fees structure of Rs. 1400-2530 to Rs. 2500 in semester system.
The examination of MA/M.Com/M.Sc. has been increased from existing fees structure of Rs. 1400-2400 to Rs. 2500 in annual system. Similarly, the examination fees of various professional courses have also been increased.
At the outset, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover informed the Senate members about the pressing situation in which the University is compelled to increase the examination fees for the students. He referred to the glorious history
of PU and its development into a University of National prominence. He described PU as a people’s University which got formed through public support & contribution.
Senate members suggested other avenues for increasing the income of the University. It was also decided that a Corpus would be created from the donations of teachers, employees, alumni for helping the economically weaker section students.
Earlier, PU Senate observed two minutes silence for paying homage to Smt.Shashi Bala Jain, the wife of PU Fellow and Additional Solicitor General of India & Member, Law Commission of India, Shri Satya Pal Jain.
