PAMETI Holds Training Course On Sustainable Agriculture

Ludhiana, February 29, 2016: The Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a training programme on “Sustainable Agriculture” in which 21 extension workers from different state development departments participated.

Dr H. S. Dhaliwal, Director, PAMETI said, “Sustainable agriculture is the efficient production of safe, high quality agricultural produce, in a way that not only protects natural environment but also improves social and economic conditions of farmers and safeguards the health of livestock.” Hemotivated the participants to pass on the knowledge, gained from this training, to the other farmers for implementation.

During the programme, Dr V. K. Dilawari from the Department of Entomology (retd.), PAU took the introductory session and explained the importance of sustainable agriculture. He also presented his current research work in this regard amongst the participants.

Mrs Apinder Sodhi, Climate Reality Project Leader for Punjab region discussed climate change and its implications on agriculture.

Farm practices related to conservation and precision agriculture were covered by Dr H. S. Sidhu from BISA, Ladhowal. In addition, sustainability of livestock as well as aquaculture was also discussed by Dr H. K. Verma, Director, Directorate of Extension Education and Dr Vaneet Inder Kaur from College of Fisheries, GADVASU, respectively. Exposure visit to farms pertaining to organic farming and integrated farming system was also arranged for the practical understanding of the concepts.
