Chennai: Gem & Jewellery India International Exhibition (GJIIE) organized by UBM India and Madras Jewellers and Diamond Merchants Association (MJDMA), the nation’s leading exhibition organizer, commenced its 12th edition today at the Chennai Trade Centre. Chief Guest Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, Padma Shri Awardee and other key dignitaries Mr.Rajesh Vummidi, Chairman, MJDMA – GJIIE, Mr.Jayantilal Chalani, President, MJDMA and Mr.Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India inaugurated the show amidst an august industry gathering.

UBM India’s three day GJIIE (October 7th - 9th, 2016) is the second largest gems & jewellery B2B exhibition in India with participation of over 350 wholesalers, retailers, importers and exporters, jewellery manufacturers, diamond, gemstone, pearl suppliers and traders, precious metal and jewellery mounting traders and suppliers, and representatives from trade and governmental bodies. It is a gateway to the Indian jewellery market and provides an excellent platform for buyers and suppliers to connect, network, exchange ideas, discover upcoming trends and generate business opportunities. In addition to Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and other potential II and III tier cities in India, the exhibition also had delegate representation from Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai, thus substantiating the international reach and presence of GJIIE 2016.

At the fair, the exhibitors presented a wide spectrum of merchandise including diamonds, pearls, gemstones, studded jewellery, exquisite South Indian gold jewellery including Temple Nakshi Jewellery , Stone Studded Jewellery, and Bridal Jewellery such as Manga Malai, Kasu Mala and Pachhi Designs, to name a few. Latest machinery used in the manufacturing process and other related products and services were also on display.

Some of the notable exhibitors who participated at the exhibition this year include leading players from Chennai, Trissur, Coimbatore, Trivandrum, Madurai, Cochin, along with Mumbai, Hyderabad, Rajkot, Ahmadabad, Chennai, Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore, Kolhapur, Calicut, Surat, and Vijayawada, to name just a few. The exhibitor names include leading players like Emerald, Krizz, Royal Chains, Sangam Chains, Damara Gold, Jewel Park, Mehta Gold, White Fire, Laxmi Diamonds, Bonitas Diamonds, Chain N Chains, Angel Gold, Anmol Swarn, Silver Emporium, Derewala, Harish Creations and Ashlyn Chemunnoor.

Speaking on the occasion of the 12th edition of GJIIE, Mr. Jayantilal Chalani, President, MJDMA said, “India is deemed to be the hub of the global jewellery market because of its low costs and availability of high-skilled labour. The gems and jewellery market in India is home to more than 5,00,000 players, with the majority being small players. We are delighted to see that the GJIIE has participation from the deep interiors of the country, including Tier II and Tier III towns. Finding a common voice and aspiration, and presenting it unilaterally is of utmost importance for the growth of the sector.”

For the first time, GJIIE 2016 will witness the Tamil Nadu Retail Jewellers Awards, a unique initiative honouring the best in the retail jewellery business in the southern region. Some of the nomination categories of the coveted awards include ‘Design Excellence’, ‘Best Print Ad’, ‘Best Marketing Campaign’, ‘Store of the Year’, ‘Exemplary Customer Service’, ‘Best Retail Team of the Year’, and more. The awards will be interspersed with sequences of a fashion show which showcased astonishing pieces of jewellery, capturing the trends of the season.

UBM has been an integral part of the jewellery industry for nearly three decades now, organizing similar renowned jewellery fairs worldwide. GJIIE is one of the four-city jewellery shows (Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi) hosted throughout the year by UBM India.
