Osler Team from Canada completes Global Health Tour at DMCH

A high level eight member team from William Osler Health System, Ontario, Canada completed a four day visit to DMCH under their Global Health Program – Care without Borders. This is the second visit by team from Osler group at DMCH after an MOU was signed between the two institutions last year.
The visit involved interactions, discussions and deliberations with the aim to improve health care delivery, education and medical research. The Vice President at Osler Ms.Susan Marie deRyk met Sh.Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary, Managing Society and Dr.Sandeep Puri, Principal at DMCH and said that the team was highly impressed with the quality of medical care available at DMCH. The team members participated in and observed the activities of the hospital and learnt many practices that they were willing to adopt in Canada. Dr.Puri said that the visiting team has also made recommendations to further improve the quality of care available at DMCH which will be adopted soon.
The visiting team consisted of an Emergency medicine unit including Dr. Leile Pede, Dr. Kamil Haider and Ms. Amarjit Dhillon and a mental health and addictions unit including Dr. Amlan Das, Ms. Parul Giare and Ms. Carrie Woodcock. Dr. Deepak Jain, from Department of Orthopedics, DMC who is coordinating the visit said that the main target of this collaboration is to improve health care for residents of Punjab as well as Punjabis settled in Canada. Osler health system offers its services at Brampton, near Toronto, Canada and a majority of patients coming to them are of South Asian origin. DMCH and Osler also expressed interest to have a program for continued medical care of patients who visit Canada and India for long period of time.
Dr. Rajesh Mahajan from department of Medicine said that the two teams interacted and exchanged ideas to take care of patients presenting in the emergency department. Many new opportunities for research were also discussed. Dr. Ranjive Mahajan, Head of Psychiatry and Dr. Amlan Das from Osler worked together to analyze and improve systems of care to deal with the menace of drug addiction, child psychiatry services and geriatric psychiatry.
