Online payments over Rs.5000 crore released to farmers in Punjab

Chandigarh, October 28, 2014: The Punjab government has made online payments over Rs.5000 crore till date to the farmers against the purchase of their crop by different procurement agencies during the ongoing paddy procurement in the state. The payment has been made regularly in accordance with the guidelines fixed by the government of India.
Stating this here today a spokesman of the government said that a payment amounting to Rs.1000 crore was released last evening to more than 15,874 farmers across the state during the ongoing paddy procurement operations.
Meanwhile 66, 64,772 M tonne of paddy has been procured till last evening. Out of the total paddy procured, 65, 31,731 (98. 2%) tonnes was procured by the government agencies and private agencies procured 1, 33,041 tonnes (2.0%). Out of the government agencies, PUNGRAIN procured 20,26,354 tonnes(31.0%), MARKFED procured 15,23,463 tonnes (23.3%), PUNSUP 14,48,789 M tonnes (22.2%), PSWC 6,45,461 (9.9%) and PAFC 6,83,188 tonnes(10.5%). The central government agency FCI could procure 2, 04,476 tonnes (3.1%) of paddy till last evening.
