One Day Strike By LIC Employees of Ludhiana Division

Ludhiana, September 2, 2016: LIC Employees of Ludhiana Division under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association today observed one day strike against anti-people and anti-workers policies of the Central Government.
The strike was called in support of 12 points charter of the working class, decided in the National Convention of Central Trade Unions and Industrial Federations held on March 30, 2016 at Delhi. Massive rally was organized in front of LIC Divisional Office, Dugri, Ludhiana. The employees raised sky echoing slogans against the Modi Govt. The rally was addressed by Amarjit Singh, Divisional Secretary, P.P.Singh, Divisional President, Harbans Singh Former Divisional President & Maan Singh, Divisional Joint Secretary.
The leadership appraised the gathering in detail about the 12 Points Charter:
• Urgent measures for containing price rise through universalization of public distribution system and banning speculative trade in commodity market.
• Containing unemployment through concrete measures for employment generation.
• Strict enforcement of all basic labour laws without any exception or exemption and stringent punitive measures for violation of labour laws.
• Universal social security cover for all workers.
• Minimum wage of not less than 18000/- per month with provisions of indexation (for unskilled worker).
• Assured enhanced pension not less than 3000 p.m for the entire working population (including unorganized sector workers).
• Stoppage of disinvestment in Central/state public sector undertakings.
• Stoppage of contractorisation in permanent/perennial work and payment of same wage and benefits for contract workers as that of regular workers for the same and similar work.
• Removal of all ceilings on payment and eligibility of bonus, provident fund and increase in quantum of gratuity.
• ompulsory registration of trade unions within a period of 45 days from the date of submitting application and immediate ratification of ILO conventions C-87 and C-98.
• No FDI in Railways, Defense and other strategic sectors.
• No unilateral amendment to labour laws.
Apart from that, they also highlighted their strong opposition against FDI in Insurance Sector and cautioned the members to remain vigilant and continue their campaign against the defense of Public Sector Insurance.
