Ludhiana, November 27, 2016: Departments of Neurology and Pharmacology under the aegis of Indian Epilepsy Society & Indian Academy of Neurology organised ‘Indian Epilepsy School’ conference at College Campus of DMCH. The conference was formally inaugurated yesterday evening by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society Sh Prem Kumar Gupta along with Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Medical Supdt Dr Ashwani Chaudhary and other office bearers of Indian Epilepsy Society and Indian Academy of Neurology .

Organizing Chairperson Dr Gagandeep Singh extended warm welcome to all the dignitaries and participating delegates.In his address,Dr Gagandeep Singh said that the conference will bring into focus various issues related with epilepsy and its treatment.

According to Organizing Secretaries-Dr Rajinder K Bansal and Dr Sandeep Kaushal, the course content during the conference include Basic Pharmacology, Conventional and new Anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs), newer surgical techniques, HLA testing with carbamazepine, genetics as a new method to investigate epilepsy, pediatric epilepsy and quizzes on pharmacotherapy, EEG and many more related topic were taken .The main theme of the course is Pharmacotherapy. Renowned international and national faculty shared their wisdom with the participants.

The scientific sessions covered during the conference touched topics pertaining to ‘Pediatric epilepsy’ which affects an estimated 10.5 million children worldwide. Seizures can interfere with a child’s life in many ways by interfering with the ability of a child to pay attention in school and doing other day-to-day routine things

Debate on the management of Epilepsy was also widely discussed. It was mentioned that there are numerous types of epilepsy that can be due to several different causes. For example, sometimes brain damage due to trauma, such as lack of oxygen to the brain at birth or a severe brain infection, can lead to epilepsy.The majority of epileptic seizures are controlled by medication, particularly antiepileptic drugs. The type of treatment prescribed will depend on several factors, including the frequency and severity of the seizures and the person's age, overall health, and medical history. An accurate diagnosis of the type of epilepsy is also critical to choosing the best treatment.
