NDMC starts tiffin service

New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) The NDMC said Sunday it has started a tiffin service to provide nutritious food cooked by trained women from low income families.

The highlights of the scheme are high standards of hygiene, nutritional value and low price, NDMC chairman Jalaj Shrivastava said.

Each food packet has dal, rice, vegetable and chapatis and costs Rs.40.

Initially around 30 women are engaged in the pilot project called Urja, now open only to the staff of the New Delhi Municipal Council. It will be later extended to nearby offices.

NDMC has roped in the Delhi Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology to equip the women with improved cooking skills.

The infrastructure for the project has been set up with a capital amount of Rs.10 lakh.
