Nawanshahr district liquor vends auctioned for over Rs.102 Crore

Nawanshahr, March 29, 2017: The draw of auction of liquor vends of SBS Nagar District for the financial year 2017-18 was held at the local A.S.Resports.
It was presided over by the deputy commissioner Sonali Giri.
The draw was taken out by distributing the district in the groups namely Nawanshah, Balachaur, Banga and Rahon.
The department of excise and taxation generated a revenue of Rs.1027569946 for the next fiscal.
Giving more details, the excise and taxation commissioner Jatinder Kaur told that the draw of liquor vends for Balachaur group went to the kitty of the firm, Guru Kirpa, and the department generated revenue of Rs.255867140. The draw of Rahon group went to the favour of Sandhu Enterprises, generating revenue of Rs.217247382. Nawanshahr group was pocketed by Harbhajan Singh and Company, giving a revenue of Rs.283163260 to the department. The Banga group draw was won by Baljit Singh and the department generated revenue of Rs.271292164 from thos group.
The department had received a total 30 applications for participation in the draw, the break-up of which as under Rahon group (15), Balachaur, Nawanshahr and Banga groups (5 each).
The district will have a total 123 vends in next fiscal compared to a total 143 in current fiscal. This time, 11 vends have been removed along National Highways in the district. The liquor quota of country-made foreign liquor and IMFL has been reduced to 14 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively, compared to previous year.
