National Livestock Fair All Set To Attract International Tourists

Chandigarh, November 26, 2015: The National Livestock fair to be organised in Muktsar on the eve of maghi in January, 2016 is all set to attract international tourists with award winning animals and livestock including high breed horses, buffaloes, dogs, cows and sheep attracting them to this one of its own kind fair in the country.
Stating this here today, Animal Husbandry Minister Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike said that, the fair would be promoted on international tourist circuit on the pattern of Pushkar fair that originally started as camel mandi and became international tourist feature. He said that he has already sanctioned over Rs.2 crore for organising this livestock fair in a befitting manner. These competitions would boost the magnificent and highly remunerative business by producing quality milk products and raising quality breed of animals. Besides these competitions, contests highlighting the horses, buffaloes, cow sheep and goats, hens, decorating and dancing competition of horses would also be organized by the animal husbandry department. Divulging the details, Mr. Ranike said that to promote livestock breeding, horse breeding and equestrian sports, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Punjab is going to organize National Livestock Championship– 2016 .
Mr. Ranike further said that National livestock and milching championship-2016 would be organized in Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Sri Mukatsar Sahib from January 8 to January 12, 2016.
The Minister also said that Livestock contests have been organised in 6 districts of the state till date. He said that Cows, Buffaloes, Bulls, Horses, riders, breeders, attendants/grooms/ferries would participation in National Livestock Championship– 2016. The Minister further said that the professionally handled completions would encourage the people to participate in livestock competition.
         Giving a schedule of the forthcoming competitions, he said that November 28-29 at Kaputhala/ Tarntarn, November 30-December 1 at Ludhiana/Ferozepur, December 2-3 at Barnala/Patiala, December 4-5 at SAS Nagar /Fazilka, December 9-10 at Sangrur/ Bathinda, December 11-12 at Mansa/Moga/Amritsar andDecember 13-14 at Sri Muktsar Sahib/Faridkot would be held. The Punjab Government  sanctioned over Rs.2.20 crore for organising this livestock fair in a befitting manner
      Giving further details about the facilities being provided by the government during these contests, the Minister said that the besides providing free accommodation to the participants, the government would also provide food like green fodder and other requirements to the animals also. Free Langar would also be organized on the occasion.
            Mr. Ranike also said that Punjab being an agrarian state, the lucrative business of Cattle rearing has been promoted at a large scale. To encourage youth of the state to adopt this business as an alternative trade, the state government.
