Municipal Corporation Ludhiana committed to make Ludhiana city plastic free: Councillor Mamta Ashu
Ludhiana: MC Councillor Mamta Ashu on September 11 said that under the Mission Tandrust Punjab of the state government, the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana is committed for making Ludhiana city plastic free. She said that the MC is formulating a proposal to ensure that the use of plastic is decreased. She said this while attending a function organised at Shaheed-E-Azam Sukhdev Thapar Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar, here today. This function was organised to make the students aware about the ill effects of plastic. While addressing the students, she said that as per Subsection 2 of Section 7 of the Punjab Plastic Carry Bags (Manufacture, Usage and Disposal) Control Act, 2005, the state government has already completely prohibited manufacturing, stocking, distribution, recycling, sale and use of plastic carry bags in the in the state. She urged the students to educate their parents about decreasing the use of plastic so that they can also contribute in saving our environment. Mamta Ashu stated that soon, the use of plastic in Municipal Corporation Ludhiana as well as other government departments would be decreased and over a period of time, it would be completely stopped. Kamaljit Kaur Vaid, Principal, Shaheed-E-Azam Sukhdev Thapar Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar, was also present on the occasion.
