Medical Surveillance wing of Health Department, Chandigarh Administration alongwith CMO of BGJ Institute of Health, PU visits all hostels of PU

Chandigarh, July 2, 2016: The Medical Surveillance wing of Health Department, Chandigarh Administration alongwith Chief Medical Officer Dr Dhawan of BGJ Institute of Health, Panjab University visited all the hostels of Panjab University today in order to check the prevalence of mosquito genetic conditions in these hostels. This inspection aimed at prevention and control of dengue, malaria and JE. The team also educated the staff and residents about the need to clean all areas of stagnant water. It was emphasized that water coolers should be drained out and scrubbed dry, over head water tanks should be locked and bolted and there should not be any stagnant spots of water in and around the hostels. The team instructed the staff to ensure that waste water is disposed off in such a manner that there is no collection of water and buckets, flower pots, drums, empty bottles etc. do not become a source of breeding of mosquito. If was further suggested that these steps must be complied in order to prevent the outbreak of vector borne diseases.
Panjab University has already initiated many preventive steps in this direction.
Professor Navdeep Goyal, Dean Student Welfare has instructed all the wardens to comply with the suggestions immediately and take all the measures to prevent the outbreak of any kind of vector borne disease in the University. In compliance with the orders, wardens have issued instructions to all the residents to ensure regular cleaning of their water coolers. University authorities will regularly monitor the enforcement of the same.
