MC Ludhiana officials get training in rainwater harvesting at PAU

Ludhiana, July 29, 2019: The Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a one-day training programme on “Rainwater Harvesting” for civic officials of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, under All India Coordinated Research Project on Irrigation Water Management (AICRP-IWM).

The training programme aimed at increasing awareness among the town planners about the technologies by which water can be harvested and recharged.

The training was attended by Sanyam Aggarwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Municipal Corporation; Viraj Tidkee ACVT- DC; Monica Anand, Town Planner; SDOs; junior engineers and architects of Municipal Corporation.

Dr KG Singh, Head of the department, said these trainings are need of the hour and people should come forward for adopting safe rainwater harvesting technologies.

Dr Rajan Aggarwal and Dr Sanjay Satpute, experts of Soil and Water Engineering, delivered lectures on rooftop rainwater harvesting along with surface water harvesting followed by field visit where recharge structures have been installed at Library and Mela Ground. They also discouraged the practice of direct injection of paddy runoff water into the wells. The department provides free consultancy to individuals who are interested in safe and efficient recharging techniques.

The officials of Municipal Corporation expressed that the design developed by PAU for rooftop rainwater harvesting is simple, economical and durable. They lauded the contribution made by PAU in the field of rainwater harvesting.
