Make Health a political agenda: Dr.Mitra

Ludhiana, December 21, 2018: Health has always been on back seat during political discourse. Time is now to make health a political agenda, said Dr Arun Mitra said while addressing national council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) which is meeting at Visakhapatnam. He called upon the CPI to make health a political agenda in the upcoming elections. It is important because every year 6.3 crore people are pushed below poverty line because of out of pocket expenditure on health. Various schemes of the Modi government are just an eye wash and meant only to please the corporate sector and insurance companies and are far from universal comprehensive healthcare. Opinion should be built for health care as a responsibility of the state. The doctors front will draft a document on the health issues for discussion among the public, he said.
