Ludhiana, August 24, 2018: With an aim to make the functioning of Jail better and direct interaction with inmates and undertrials, District & Sessions Judge Mr Gurbir Singh along with 20 other judges carried a surprise check of Central Jail Ludhiana today. Under this check organised under the “Connect to Serve” campaign, the District & Sessions Judge was also accompanied by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary cum Chief Judicial Magistrate Dr Gurpreet Kaur, several other judges, Jail Superintendent Mr SS Boparai, besides others.

It is pertinent to mention that this is for the first time in the state that more than 20 judges have carried a surprise check of a jail.

While giving further information, Mr Gurbir Singh informed that during today’s surprise check, all the judges interacted with 3350 inmates and undertrials and took their feedback about their problems. He said that different teams were formed and they visited different barracks. Besides, the judges took notice of the basic facilities, kitchen, food, bathroom, jail security and other aspects.

Mr Gurbir Singh said that after this 2-hour long checking, the judges would prepare a detailed report, which would be discussed in detail later. After which action would be taken regarding any changes to be made with respect to the functioning of the jail. He said that under the “Connect to Serve” campaign, the DLSA is making efforts to connect directly with all sections of the society, so that their problems are redressed.
