Mainz appoint Kasper Hjulmand as new coach

Berlin, May 16 (IANS) Kasper Hjulmand has been named as the new Mainz coach, the German Bundesliga club confirmed on its official homepage Thursday.

The 42-year-old Nordsjaelland coach will join Mainz after the end of the Danish Superliga campaign after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal, Xinhua reported.

Hjulmand will take over the vacant coaching position as former Mainz Thomas Tuchel resigned despite having a contract until June 2015. However, Mainz and Tuchel still negotiate over the final year of the contract.

"Kasper Hjulmand fits perfectly into our profile. He has a professional knowledge; he is meticulous and is an advocate of offensively minded style of play. Besides that he has an excellent reputation in his homeland when it comes to develop youngsters. We are delighted that he opted for Mainz," Mainz manager Christian Heidel said.

The new coach, who will be officially introduced this Monday, said: "I have followed the Bundesliga and had already an idea of the club. After talks with the manager Christian Heidel I was surprised how perfect the philosophy of the club suits with mine. The move to Mainz is a heart decision for me."

Mainz completed the Bundesliga season on 7th place, which allows them to take part in the UEFA Europa League qualification.
