Ludhiana, July 16, 2018: Ludhiana Sanskritik Samagam (LSS) delighted to bring The Primetime Theatre Company’s Salaam, Noni Appa- a Hindu play by Lillete Dubey that is based on Twinkle Khanna’s short story with the same title. Besides Lillete, cast includes some of India’s most talented theatre artists, including Yatin Karkekar, Jayati Bhatia and Gillian Pinto.
The play will be staged on 21st July at 7.30pm in Guru Nanak Auditorium, Ludhiana and duration of play is 90 minutes.
This was stated by Amrit Nagpal, Vice President and S.K Rai, General Secretary, Ludhiana Sanskritik Samaam at a press conference held here on Monday.
Briefing about the synopsis, they said, “Salmaan, Noni Appa is a delightful story about life’s wonderful unexpectedness; where new adventures and experiences await us at every turn, provided we have the courage to spot them. It is a tale of discovering love in the autumn of life, and finally, of being true to ourselves.”
Noni Appa, an elderly widow, and her sister Binni, opposites in nature, are two sisters whose worlds after marriage, children and widowhood, merge once again. They laugh, bicker, fight and love, and spend their days in a familiar and comfortable – albeit staid – manner, till one day Noni Appa, who has always lived in step with society, suddenly finds herself falling in love with a younger married man. She finds herself torn between choosing companionship over respectability.
Salaam, Noni Appa is about breaking stereotypes, talking chances, and rediscovering what makes life truly meaningful and worth living.
Further, they said the Primetime Theatre Company was set up in March 1991 with the twin objectives of providing a platform for original Indian writing in English and travelling with its work across India and abroad to showcase indigenous work in different cultures. In 27 years, the Prime Time Theatre Company has completed over 3000 shows across the world with productions that have often been landmarks. The company aims always, to choose writing of a high quality that is uniquely Indian in voice but which, at the same time has the capacity to transcend its cultural context and appeal to audiences the world over. It has produced 32 plays so far.
