Two-day 22nd Annual Conference of North Zone Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine begins

Ludhiana, April 8, 2018: Dayanand Medical College & Hospital today hosted two-day 22nd Annual Conference of North Zone Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine-2018 & 13th Annual Conference of IAPSM Punjab Chapter-2018. Before the formal inaugural ceremony, pre-conference qualitative workshops were conducted for the participating delegates on the topic of ‘Qualitative Research’ followed by focused group discussion, sampling, data analysis and data analysis.

The conference was then inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta along with Principal Dr Sandeep Puri and Medical Supdt Dr Sandeep Sharma. Also present were Dr JS Thakur (President, North Zone IAPSM), Dr Anurag Chuadhary (Professor & Head of Community Medicine, DMCH), Dr Sarit Sharma and Dr Sangeeta Girdhar

In her address, Organizing Chairperson-Dr Anurag Chaudhary extended warm welcome the dignitaries and participating delegates present on the occasion. Organizing Secretaries- Dr Sarit Sharma and Dr Sangeeta Girdhar apprised the audience about various scientific sessions to be held in this two-day conference.

Dr Chandrakant Lahariya, National Professional Officer-Universal Health Coverage from WHO, New Delhi delivered keynote address on ‘Health Financing & Insurance in relation to Universal Health Coverage.’ Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is an important initiative launched by WHO to ensure that all people obtain the health services they need without suffering financial hardship when paying for them. Countries that progress towards UHC will make progress towards the other health-related targets and also provides the basis for long-term economic development.

Dr Rajesh Kumar from PGIMER Chandigarh spoke on ‘Newer Initiatives for prevention and control of Non Communicable Diseases under Universal Health Coverage. Lecture on ‘Child and Adolescent Health in relation to Universal Health Coverage’ was delivered by Dr Jugal Kishaore from Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, New Delhi

Followed by keynote addresses of various distinguished speakers, two prestigious orations were delivered. ‘Dr YL Vasudeva Oration’ was delivered by Dr Rakesh Bahl and Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta and ‘Dr ML Chugh Oration’ was delivered by Dr Tejbir Singh.

The first day of the conference ended with poster presentation on the topic of ‘Universal Health Coverage’
