Ludhiana city areas liquor vends to remain closed for two hours on Feb 6

Ludhiana, February 5, 2013: Ludhiana Wine Association has decided that all the liquor vends of Ludhiana municipal corporation area will remain closed for two hours from 12 pm to 2 pm on February 6.

A unanimous decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the association held here today.

According to a release issued here today by the association, the Excise and Taxation Department Ludhiana has raided  the house of the association’s syndicate member Charanjit Singh Bajaj in the Sarabha Nagar locality on February 4 and in this search no discrepancy is found.

The meeting unanimously passed that the office bearers and executive members and members of the association have condemned the action of the department. The meeting observed that the department has hurt reputation of the association’s “honourable and genuine” members.

The release said the association members are the licenses of Ludhiana Wine Association which pays the revenue to Excise Department to the tune of Rs.333 crore.

The release further said they paid VAT and excise duties worth about Rs. 1000 crore.

The release claims that due to the excise raid and inspection of one of honorable members Livtar Bajaj has gone under depression and he has been admitted to hospital for necessary treatment.

“This action on the department is fully condemned”, the release said, adding the meeting unanimously resolved that all the liquor vends of Ludhiana municipal area would be closed for two hours from 12 pm to 2 pm on February 6. The matter has already been brought to the notice of the higher authorities.

Meanwhile, the association is holding a press conference in this regard tomorrow.

The meeting was attended by Kulwant Singh Sidhu (Sidhu Group), Vinod Dewan (Chabbra Group), Pappi Verma (Singla Group), Jaspal Sing h (Malhotra Group), Titu Chabbra, Kewal Chabbra, and others.
