Jalandhar, February 12, 2016: On the inaugural session of the two day UGC Sponsored National conference on recent developments on stress tolerance and plant biotechnology on Thursday Dr.Gurpreet Singh, convener of the conference introduced about the speaker to the audience. Dr.P.S.Ahuja, JC Bose National Fellow and Adjunct professor, IIHER Mohali was the key note speaker for the occasion. The lecture touched upon various aspects of certain individual gene manipulation through the development of transgenics and up regulation of specific genes in the antioxidant pathway, namely, superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase. He discussed that we has disturbed the ecosystem both at biological as well as cultural level and only three genes has revolutionized the whole country using the modern molecular technology. He described his work of last more than 25 years and discussed in detail about the contribution in technology transfer from his lab to the industry. He discussed his work about the SOD gene and lignin biosynthesis pathway and their correlation during his lecture.
