Lecture-cum-workshop on karyotypic analysis of laboratory organisms
Jalandhar, November 22, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organized a lecture cum workshop on “Karyotypic Analysis of Laboratory Organisms”. The workshop was organized by the Department of Botany. Dr.Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was the resource person for the workshop. She began the workshop by delivering a presentation in which she gave introduction about chromosomes, their structures and karyotypes. She expostulated students about the different methods used for karyotypic analysis in laboratory organisms like Allium cepa, Vicia faba and human beings. She also discussed about importance of karyotypic analysis. Along with this she also explained various genetic disorders and role of karyotypes in their identification. After the presentation, she conducted a practical session along with her two research scholars. She spared her time to impart training workshop on karyotype study of Vicia faba, Allium cepa and human beings to the students. Students analyzed and made their own karyotypes under the guidance of Dr Avinash Kaur. After workshop, a question answer session was also conducted in which students asked their queries and the resource person cleared their doubts in a very informative & descriptive manner. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that this is the best hands on training for the students at this stage as it provides an opportunity to the students to learn from the experts. She lauded the efforts of Botany department for organizing such type of informative workshops.
