Kulwant Kaur Gill donates Rs.55 lakhs for betterment of students
Chandigarh, March 8, 2019: Ms.Kulwant Kaur Gill, an alumnus of Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh donated Rs.55 lakhs to the department for the betterment of the students on the occasion of International Women’s Day, here today on the theme “Legal Aid for Women” BalanceForBetter with the aim of creating awareness regarding various laws with respect to women safety and security in India. Ms. Gill in her address stressed on the positive progression in the society towards gender inclusiveness and the fact that women are now no longer in the backdrop, rather are right at the forefront in very field. However, she also emphasized that much more needs to be done to diminish the disparity and help women of every strata live a dignified life. Help desks were installed in the University’s Student Center with qualified professionals in order to guide the Women seeking information and help. The events included Slogan writing, Poster making, Extempore and a Walkathon centered around the theme, and it was open to all the students of PU free of any registration cost. A prize distribution and felicitation ceremony was held in the afternoon. Prof. Meenu Paul, Chairperson, Department of Laws in her welcome address stressed on the importance of women empowerment and the need for every female to know about her rights and the provisions she can take help under if need so be. She informed that Ms. Gill was the first female Head of Department of the Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh. She was also the first female to do her LL.M. and Ph.d from the University itself. Prof. Meenu Paul expressed her immense gratitude towards Ms. Gill for her donation to the department. Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Neena Capalash, Dean Student Welfare, Women, faculty, researchers and students were also present on the occasion.
