Jalandhar, May 13, 2016: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar’s Pt.Ramakant, internationally Renowned Tabla Player, who has been serving as faculty at the Vidyalaya for the last 50 years was honoured for his invaluable contributions as a priceless faculty member of the college . It is worth mentioning that Pandit Ramakant has performed at prestigious stages with renowned names like Pt Bhim Sen Joshi, Parveen Sulatana, Lakshmi Shankar and Sh. Gopal Krishna. On his overseas trip in 1978 he performed in concerts with great renowned artists like L. Subramanayam and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. In 1983 he travelled across Asia and in the same year he gave a solo-performance in the World Festival. He has also performed with foreign artists. Norway Indian Society decorated him with ‘India’s Music Messenger.’ Pandit Ramakant has been associated with Harivallabh Sangeet Kala Manch for the past 60 years and was also honoured with Life Time Achievement Award for the same. His other achievements include award of Tal Ratan by Sangeet Kala Manch, Sarang Sanget Society honoured him with the title of Tabla Ustad Master, Ratan Sangeet Sameelan gave him the award of Laya Vikhayat. The Madhya Pradesh Govt. also honoured him renowned musicians of the State. The exhaustive list of awards also includes Satguru Jagjeet Singh ji award. It is also note worthy that Pandit ji joined the Vidyalaya in 1965 and in 1966 only he became renowned in Northern India. Pandit ji’s potential was recognized at Harvallabh Sangeeta long back in 1958 when as a performer he got the 1st position. Pandit ji felt that he was proud to be a part of KMV fraternity and felt honoured to have been nourished and cherished in such a age-old heritage institution.
