Khanna, October 15, 2017: AAP leader and Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira today flayed the registration of cases against farmers in the state for burning paddy stubble and termed state government responsible for it. He along with party leaders of AAP of Samrala area under Sarbans Singh Manki burned the paddy stubble at Samrala near Maharaja palace as a mark of protest.
Khaira declared that he will raise this issue in the state assembly as farmers are already reeling under debt and now registering of cases will burden them more. He stated that although the NGT had also directed concerned Governments to provide machinery to remove paddy straw but the state government is only harassing farmers and had failed to provide machinery. Khaira declared full support to farmers’ unions for raising this issue and said that AAP fully supports this genuine demand of farmers and flayed pressure of fines and registering of cases against farmers. He make it clear that only farmers are not responsible for pollution as the big industries of political backing are mainly responsible for this problem. He said that he will raise all issues of farmers in assembly and demanded Rs.5,000 per acre for farmers to remove stubble without burning.
AAP leader and main organiser of this programme Manki also addressed the gathering and declared that they will stand with farmers of the area in case of fines and registering of cases against farmers of the area.
Some other local leaders of AAP, including Ranjit Singh Dhamot, Daljit Singh Shahi and Gurpreet Singh Lapran were present at this time.
