Judgment: 5 years RI to then AC of IT in bribery case

Jalandhar, December 24, 2012: The Special Judge for CBI case, Mumbai has convicted, Rajiv Kumar the then Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax Circle 27 (1) Piramal Chambers Lal Baugh, Mumbai in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs. 30,000.

A case was registered on 25.03.1998 against  Rajiv Kumar, Asst. Commissioner of Income Tax Under Section 7 & 13(2) r/w 13 (1) (d) of PC Act, 1988 on the allegation that he had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 25,000 from complainant for settlement of Income Tax Assessment for the year 1995-96. CBI laid a trap and the accused was arrested while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant.

After thorough investigation, charge sheet was filed on 02.09.2000 in the Court of Special Judge for CBI Cases, Mumbai against  Rajeev Kumar, the then Asstt. Commissioner of Income Tax.
