Chandigarh, August 25, 2014: In the by-election results declared today, Shiromani Akali Dal candidate won Talwandi Sabo assembly constituency and Indian National Congress candidate won Patiala assembly constituency.

Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab V.K. Singh said that in Talwandi Sabo constituency, out of total 1,18,690 votes polled, Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu got 71,747 votes, while Indian National Congress candidate Harminder Singh Jassi acquired 25,105, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Prof.Baljinder Kaur secured 13,899 and Punjab Labour Party candidate Makhan Singh Premi got 389 votes. Of independent candidates, Balkar Singh got 6,305, Balwinder Singh 218 and Bhai Bharpur Singh got 447 votes. He said that Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu defeated Harminder Singh Jassi of Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 46,642 votes. He further said that 580 voters opted for 'NOTA’ button in Talwandi Sabo constituency.

CEO further said that in Patiala constituency, 89,570 voters exercised their democratic right, out of which, Preneet Kaur of Indian National Congress got 52,967 votes, Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Bhagwan Dass Juneja got 29,685, Aam Aadmy Party candidate Harjit Singh 5,724, New All India Congress Party candidate Amrik Singh 139 and Hindusthan Nirman Dal candidate Ravi Kant obtained 101 votes, while Independent candidate Mr Balbir Singh got 74 votes, Balwinder Singh 119 and Rajinder Singh Pawar got 138 votes. He mentioned that 623 voters opted for NOTA. He said that Indian National Congress candidate Preneet Kaur defeated Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Bhagwan Dass Juneja by 23282 votes.
