JALANDHAR BRIEFS- Flood protection measures complete

Jalandhar, July 17, 2013: The increasing water level in the reservoirs of Pong Dam Talwara Township and Bhakra Dam Nangal Township due to melting of glaciers and heavy rainfall in the hilly areas have put the people residing near the banks of the River Sutlej and Beas in dilemma as the warning given by the BBMB that the flood gates can be opened.

On the other side, the Punjab Irrigation Department has been working day and night to complete the flood protection works. When contacted over phone Anil Sood, Superintending Engineer, Jalandhar Drainage Division said that the flood works under his circle have been completed. He said five divisions one Mechanical Division at Nangal Township and other Division one each at Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana, and two in Jalandhar falls in his circle.

Sood told that people do not have to worry as all the flood protection works have been completed.

 

RESENTMENT over new timings of water supply

The officials of Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar have changed the timings of the water supply in the city. Earlier it was from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 12 noon to 2 p.m., 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The new timings are; 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. As a result, a great resentment prevails among the local residents.

Residents have urged upon the Mayor Sunil Jyoti to intervene and roll back the new timings in the larger interest of people.
